
Play with friends in the Apple Games app on Mac
With the Apple Games app, you can play games, track and compare scores and achievements, challenge other players, and compete in multiplayer games.
You can browse games in the Apple Games app to get the newest or most popular titles that support multiplayer gameplay. If you’re using a Mac with Apple silicon, many iPhone and iPad games work on your Mac (indicated by the Designed for iPhone or Designed for iPad label in the App Store). You can also subscribe to Apple Arcade to download and play a collection of featured games, and enjoy unlimited play on all your supported devices.
Note: Apple Arcade and Game Center aren’t available in all countries or regions.
View your friends’ gameplay and progress
You can see your friends’ shared gaming history and compare achievements.
Go to the Apple Games app
on your Mac.
Do any of the following:
View what your friends are playing: Click Home, then click Friends are Playing.
Browse games to play together: Click Friends, then view suggestions in the What to Play Together section.
View friends’ challenges and achievements: Click your avatar in the top right, click All Friends, select a friend, then click Challenges or Achievements.
You can also see your friends’ profiles and recent activity by going to the System Settings app , clicking Game Center
in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), then clicking All Friends.
Challenge friends
In supported games with Game Center leaderboards, you can create a challenge to compete with friends for a high score or specific goal. You choose the game, select friends to invite, and track everyone’s results as they complete the challenge.
Go to the Apple Games app
on your Mac.
Click Friends, then click Challenges.
Select the game, then choose any of the following options:
Number of tries: Select 1 Try, 3 Tries, or Unlimited.
Challenge duration: Select 1 Day, 3 Days, or 1 Week.
Add Players: Click Players, search for a contact or a friend’s Game Center nickname, select the player, then click Continue.
Click Start.
To leave a challenge, select the game, click , click Leave Challenge, then click Leave Challenge again.
Make sure Game Center notifications are turned on in Notification settings, so you know when you’re invited to join a game or that it’s your turn to play. You can receive Game Center notifications even when you’re using a Focus. See Set up a Focus.
Note: The administrator of a Mac can prevent other users of the Mac from joining multiplayer games or adding friends. See Change App Store, Media, Web, & Games settings in Screen Time.
