Before You Begin

 Warning

Read Battery Safety and follow workspace and battery handling guidelines before you begin.

Tools

  • Adjustable torque driver (10–34 Ncm)

  • Crosshead 50 mm bit

  • Crosshead 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Crosshead 100 mm half-moon bit

  • ESD-safe tweezers

  • Nylon probe (black stick)

  • Super screw 44 mm half-moon bit

  • Torque driver (blue, 0.65 kgf cm)

  • Torque driver (gray, 0.55 kgf cm)

  • Trilobe 44 mm half-moon bit

Removal

Important

Complete back glass removal steps 1 through 4. Then continue to step 1.

  1. Use a torque driver and trilobe bit to remove five trilobe screws.

    • Remove the lower connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Remove the middle connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Remove the upper connector cowling and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the ends of the battery flex cable (1), the back glass flex cable (2), and the two TrueDepth camera flex cables (3) off the connectors.

      • Caution: You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone remains turned off.

    • Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cups to release them from the back glass. Then put the back glass into an ESD-safe bag. 

  2. Remove the TrueDepth camera from the enclosure.

  3. Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove six crosshead screws.

  4. Use a torque driver and the super screw bit to remove one super screw.

    • Remove the camera spacer and save it for reassembly.

    • Lift the end of the top speaker flex cable and the camera flex cable from the connectors.

    • Remove the top speaker from the enclosure.

Reassembly

  1. Position the replacement top speaker in the enclosure.

  2. Press the ends of the top speaker and camera flex cables to the connectors.

  3. Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-12457) into the top speaker.

  4. Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws (923-12365) into the top speaker.

  5. Use the blue torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-12366) into the top speaker.

  6. Use the gray torque driver and the long crosshead bit to install one new crosshead screw (923-08504) into the top speaker.

  7. Set the torque value on the adjustable torque driver to 14.5 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and crosshead bit to install a new crosshead screw (923-12363) into the camera.

  8. Position the camera spacer in the enclosure as shown.

  9. Use the blue torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw into the camera spacer (923-12364).

Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
