Take a tour of Mac mini
Before you get started with your Mac mini, here’s a quick introduction to its buttons, features, and ports.

Tip: You can turn on Mac mini by pressing the power button—or by connecting it to power. If you want to turn on your Mac mini and it’s currently plugged in, disconnect it for thirty seconds, then reconnect it to turn it on. | |||||||||||
Get to know your ports
Your Mac mini comes with two USB-C ports on the front. On the back of your Mac mini are three Thunderbolt ports, as well as one HDMI port and one Gigabit Ethernet port.
Connect an accessory to your Mac mini. You can connect an accessory, like a mouse, a storage device, or printer, to any of the USB-C or Thunderbolt ports on the front or back of your Mac mini.
If you’re connecting a device that doesn’t have a USB-C connector, you need an adapter. See Adapters and cables for your Mac mini.
Connect a display to your Mac mini. You can connect an external display, as well as a projector or HDTV, to any of the Thunderbolt / USB-C ports or the HDMI port on the back of your Mac mini. Your Mac mini can support up to three displays. For display configurations, see Connect additional displays to Mac mini.
Note: The USB-C ports on the front of your Mac mini don’t support video output.
Connect your Mac mini to Ethernet or transfer files between computers using the Ethernet port. Use the Gigabit Ethernet port on the back of your Mac mini to connect a router or model, or another computer to transfer files without using Wi-Fi. Your Mac mini has either the 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port or the optional 10 Gigabit Ethernet port.
Note: Devices that use only Thunderbolt aren’t compatible with the front USB-C ports on Mac mini. If your Thunderbolt device also uses another standard—like USB 2 or USB 3—you can connect them to the front USB-C ports. If you want to connect a device that uses Thunderbolt, use the back ports on Mac mini.
