
Change Screen Saver settings on Mac
On your Mac, use Screen Saver settings to hide the desktop when you’re away from your Mac or if you need extra privacy. Learn how to use a screen saver.
To change these settings, choose Apple menu in the sidebar, then click Screen Saver on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)

Option | Description |

Current screen saver thumbnail | The screen saver currently used on your Mac. |
Preview | To show a full-screen preview, move the pointer over the thumbnail at the top of the window, then click Preview. To stop the preview, move the pointer. |
Start Screen Saver | Change how long your Mac can be inactive before the screen saver starts. |
Use Screen Saver | Choose Automatic or Custom settings. |
Current screen saver | View the name of the current screen saver, and choose options (such as Automatic, Light, or Dark) if available. |
macOS | Choose a slow-motion image as your screen saver. |
Landscape, Cityscape, Underwater, and Earth aerials | Choose a slow-motion aerial as your screen saver. If |
Shuffle Aerials | Choose to rotate through several slow-motion aerials as your screen saver. From the pop-up menu next to Shuffle at the top of the window, choose how often you want to rotate through the aerials. |
Other | Click Photos or one of the screen savers. Click Random to shuffle through the screen savers. Click Options at the top of the window to set color, speed, and more, based on the screen saver you select. |
To start or stop the screen saver when you move the pointer to a screen corner, choose Apple menu in the sidebar, then click Hot Corners at the bottom of the screen. See Use hot corners.
