Find text in log messages and reports in Console on Mac
You can search for specific text in log messages or reports you’re viewing.
Note: If you’re not logged in as an administrator, you need to enter an administrator name and password to view log messages.
In the Console app on your Mac, press Command-F, type a word or phrase in the search field, then press Return.
Do any of the following:
Go to the next or previous instance in the results: Click the arrow buttons.
Clear the search field: Click the Close button .
Set options for the current search: Click the Search Options button in the search field, then select or deselect items in the pop-up menu. For example, to find text that exactly matches the capitalization of your search term, deselect Ignore Case.
You can also search for special characters and text patterns, such as an email address or white space. Click the Search Options button , choose Insert Pattern from the pop-up menu, then select an item in the list.
To search for a sequence of items (for example, a web address, then a white space), add one item to the search field, choose Insert Pattern again, then add another item.
When you’re finished, click Done.
