Open the Medical Imaging Calibrator on Studio Display XDR
Trained medical professionals can use the Medical Imaging Calibrator with a medical imaging preset to prepare Studio Display XDR for primary diagnostic interpretation of images in general radiology.
Note: This feature is available only in the U.S. and U.S. Territories on macOS 26.4 when connected to a Studio Display XDR with firmware 26.4 or later. For more information, see the macOS Feature Availability website.
Before you begin
Before you can calibrate your Studio Display XDR with the Medical Imaging Calibrator, make sure you meet all the requirements, which include:
Software: You have the latest software (macOS 26.4 or later) installed on your Mac.
Network: You’re connected to the internet and Location Services is turned on. An internet connection is required to use this feature, access test images for visual inspections, and access the Quality Control Manual.
Colorimeter: You have a compatible colorimeter to take front of screen measurements. For more information, see Medical Imaging Calibration Feature Quality Control (QC) Manual.
Environmental: You have optimal lighting by setting the ambient light to approximately 25 lux. Also ensure there are no lights directly overhead and there is no reflection on the display.
Warm-up time: After you choose the preset for medical imaging, the display must warm up by showing an image in the medical preset for at least 40 minutes.
Open the Medical Imaging Calibrator
Before you can use your Studio Display XDR for diagnostic interpretation of images, you need to calibrate it using the Medical Imaging Calibrator.
Go to System Settings on your Mac.
Click Displays in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Select Studio Display XDR at the top, then click the display’s Preset pop-up menu.

Select Medical Imaging (DICOM-350 nits) or Medical Imaging (DICOM-600 nits).

After you choose the preset for medical imaging, the display must warm up by showing an image in the medical preset for at least 40 minutes before you can calibrate your display.
Tip: To prevent your Mac from going to sleep, temporarily adjust sleep settings on your Mac. Go to System Settings, click Lock Screen in the sidebar (you may need to scroll down), then adjust "Turn display off on power adapter when inactive" so the display stays on for at least 40 minutes.
Click the Preset pop-up menu, then select Medical Imaging Calibration.
Note: Medical Imaging Calibration only appears after a Medical Imaging preset is selected.

Follow the onscreen instructions to calibrate your Studio Display XDR.
