Change a Freeform board’s appearance on Mac
You can change the way your Freeform boards appear. This is helpful not only when you’re creating a board but later when you’re showing it to others.
See more of a board onscreen and zoom in or out
When you’re viewing a board or showing it to others, you can take advantage of sizing and display options.
Go to the Freeform app
on your Mac.
Do any of the following:
Remove the sidebar: Choose View > Hide Sidebar.
Enter full screen: Choose View > Enter Full Screen.
Zoom in and out: Click
or
in the lower-left corner of the board to zoom in or out.
Zoom to specific content: Select items on the board that you want to zoom in to, then choose View > Zoom > Zoom to Selection.
Zoom to see all content in the board onscreen: Choose View > Zoom > Zoom to Fit Content.
Pan around your board: Click and drag the canvas while pressing the Space bar.
You can also use an Apple trackpad or Magic Mouse to use gestures such as pinch and swipe to zoom in on items or move around the board. See Keyboard shortcuts and gestures and View and customize mouse or trackpad gestures.
Hide or show the grid
You can show a grid of gray dots on your board, which allows you to see more easily whether items line up.
Go to the Freeform app
on your Mac.
Do one of the following:
Show the dot grid: Click
in the bottom-right corner (or choose View > Show Grid).
Hide the dot grid: Click
in the bottom-right corner (or choose View > Hide Grid).
Tip: To make edges and points align to the nearest dot on the grid as you resize or move an item, choose View > Snap to Grid.
Add a nonwhite background
Freeform boards have a white background. To use a different background color, you can define a workspace within your board by adding a large rectangle, then choosing the color you want.
Go to the Freeform app
on your Mac.
Click
, then select the square shape (in the Basic category).
A square appears on your board.
Drag any handle on the square to make it a rectangle of the size you want to work in.
Select the rectangle, click the color swatch in the formatting tools, then choose a color.
Control-click the rectangle, then choose Send to Back. See Arrange items on top of or behind other items.
Control-click the rectangle again, then choose Lock.
Note: Any items you later arrange with Send to Back will be hidden behind your background. If this happens, just unlock the background rectangle, send it to the back, and lock it again. See Lock items on a board.
