Set up content restrictions

You can set content restrictions, often also referred to as parental controls, to restrict access to movies or TV shows above a certain rating.

Set up or modify content restrictions for profiles on your TV or living room device

You can set up or modify content restrictions for any profiles that appear in Apple TV app settings.

Go to the Apple TV app on your TV or living room device.
Open the sidebar, then select Settings.
Select Profiles, select [profile name], then select Restrictions.
If prompted, follow the onscreen instructions to confirm your account information by scanning a QR code with the camera on your phone or tablet, or opening a link in a web browser.
Do any of the following:
- Filter content for movies: Select Movies, then choose a ratings option.
- Filter content for TV shows: Select TV Shows, then choose a ratings option.
- Allow purchases and rentals: Select Purchases and Rentals to choose an option.

On your Apple devices, you can apply content restrictions on apps in the App Store.

Go to the Apple TV app on your Android device.
Tap your account icon in the top-right corner.
If you don’t see your account icon, tap . You may have to tap several times.
In the Settings menu that opens, tap Content Restrictions.
Create a four-digit passcode.
Turn on Content Restrictions, then do either of the following:
- Restrict which movies are available in the Apple TV app: Tap Movies, then tap the highest allowed rating, or tap Don’t Allow to restrict all movies.
- Restrict which TV shows are available in the Apple TV app: Tap TV Shows, then tap the highest allowed rating, or tap Don’t Allow to restrict all TV shows.
Tap to return to the Settings menu, and again to return to the Apple TV app.
Content restrictions are applied immediately after you set them.
To update or remove content restrictions, tap your account icon to open Settings, tap Content Restrictions, enter the passcode you created, then make adjustments.
