Control access to the microphone on Mac
Some apps and websites can use the microphone on your Mac to capture or record audio. You can decide which apps are allowed to use the microphone.
Choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Privacy & Security in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
Click Microphone.
Turn access to the microphone on or off for each app in the list.
If you turn off access for an app, you’re asked to turn it on again the next time that app tries to use your microphone.
Note: The Recording Indicator light in Control Center shows when your computer’s microphone is in use or has been used recently. This light increases security and privacy on your Mac by letting you know if an app has access to the microphone.
If you allow third-party apps or websites to use your microphone information, any information they collect is governed by their terms and privacy policies. It’s recommended that you learn about the privacy practices of those parties.
If you’re a systems administrator and want information about deploying security settings, see Apple Platform Deployment.
