Use VoiceOver to turn Web Announcements on or off on Mac
Some webpages send announcements automatically, such as live scores, new messages, or status updates. If these announcements become distracting, you can turn them off for a single area of a webpage or for the entire page. VoiceOver remembers your choice for that website, so the area stays silent the next time you visit.
Note: VO represents the VoiceOver modifier that you press with additional keys to enter VoiceOver commands. By default, you can press Control and Option together or just press Caps Lock.
Turn Web Announcements on or off
Note: Web Announcements are turned on by default. Disabling Web Announcements may make certain websites less accessible.
Go to VoiceOver Utility (press VO-Fn-F8 when VoiceOver is on).
Click the Web category, then select Enable Web Announcements.
Turn off a specific web announcement
By default, Web Announcements are turned on. You can turn off a specific web announcement if needed, such as when they become too distracting.
If you know which element on the page is creating an announcement, navigate to it. If not, leave the VoiceOver cursor on the web area, then choose Toggle announcements for web region command.
Press VO-H to open VoiceOver help, then go to Commands Help > Web > Toggle announcements for web region.
If you use this command frequently, you can assign it to a key in VoiceOver Utility. Select the command again to re-enable it. See Customize key commands and trackpad gestures for VoiceOver.
Live Regions are one specific type of web announcement that you can access through the rotor in VoiceOver Utility. You can navigate to all of the live regions on a webpage using the rotor, which can help you quickly enable or disable it.
Note: Some web announcements are not associated with live regions, so you need to toggle announcements for the whole webpage.
VoiceOver remembers your settings the next time you visit that same webpage.
