Search for locations and places in Maps on Mac
You can find addresses, businesses, landmarks, and more—whether they’re nearby or farther away—and get information about a location.
Search for a location
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Click the search field at the top of the sidebar.
If you don’t see the sidebar, click
.
Enter an address or other information. You can search for any of the following, for example:
A request or question (“Any parks with playgrounds nearby?”)
An intersection (“8th and Market”)
An area (“Greenwich Village”)
A landmark (“Guggenheim”)
A zip code (“60622”)
A business (“movies,” “restaurants San Francisco CA,” “Apple Inc New York”)
GPS coordinates (“37.8199 N, 122.4783 W”)
The name of someone in your contacts
Click a result to show it in Maps.
Tip: To search for another location, without losing the location you’re viewing, search in a new window or tab. Choose File > New Window or File > New Tab.
Find nearby businesses and attractions
When you’re in an unfamiliar area, you can find nearby attractions, restaurants, or services.
Siri: Ask Siri something like, “Find coffee near me.” Learn how to use Siri.

Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Click the search field, then do any of the following:
Click a category like Grocery Stores or Restaurants below Find Nearby.
Enter something like “playgrounds” or “parks” in the search field, then click Search Nearby at the top of the search results.
In select U.S. cities, enter “Local Lists,” click Guides, then choose a collection, such as restaurants or kid-friendly spots. Suggestions come from what’s trending in the area and aren’t connected to your own activity.
Depending on what you’re looking for, you may be able to apply more search criteria, click a suggestion to get additional information, and more.

To change the nearby area, drag the map.
You can see detailed, interior maps for some large spaces like airports or shopping malls. Click the button for the floor, such as L2, to see another level. If you don’t see a level button, zoom in until it appears along the right side of the window.
Get information about a location
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Click a location on the map, then scroll down in the place card.
Place cards can show a location’s address, type of location (for example, a landmark or a business), distance from your current location, ratings and reviews, and more. You can also get directions, save the location to your places or contacts, or report an issue.
