Save walks or hikes in Maps on Mac
You can customize a walking path to plan a hike, an exercise route, or a city tour. In U.S. national parks, you can browse hikes and filter them by length, elevation, and route type. You can also save the routes—along with any notes you add—to review when you’re offline.
Note: To search for hikes, you must be connected to the internet. Not all features are available in all countries or regions.
Browse and save hikes
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Choose View > Explore or press Command-1.
Search for a place, such as a national park, then click it in the search results.
On the place card, scroll to the Hikes section, then click a hike to open it.
You can browse more hikes by swiping left with two fingers on your trackpad. To see a list of hikes, click More.
Click Add to Routes, rename the hike and add notes (optional), then click Done.
To see your saved hikes, click Routes in the sidebar.
If you don’t see the sidebar, click .
Create a custom walk or hike
You can customize a walk or hike, then save the route along with any notes you add.
Note: Not all features are available in all countries or regions. See the macOS Feature Availability website.
Go to the Maps app
on your Mac.
Click Routes in the sidebar.
If you don’t see the sidebar, click
.
Do one of the following:
If this is your first saved route: Click Create a Route.
If you’ve saved routes before: Click
near the bottom of the Routes card.
To select a starting point on the map, click any road, path, trail, or other location accessible by walking.
Click other points along your route.
Do any of the following:
Switch the start and end points: Click
.
Make the route out-and-back: Click
.
Close the route with the shortest point back to the start: Click
.
Click Save Route, name the route or add notes (optional), then click Done.
To see your saved walks or hikes, click Routes in the sidebar.
