
Mark emails to revisit later in Mail on Mac
You can flag emails, make senders VIPs, archive emails for later, and get reminders to revisit messages with no response.
Flag emails
Go to the Mail app
on your Mac.Click
in the Mail toolbar, then choose a flag. The flag appears in the header of each message.
Flagged messages are displayed in the Flagged mailbox.
To remove a flag from an email, click
, then choose Clear Flag.
Rename flags
Go to the Mail app
on your Mac.Click
next to the Flagged mailbox in the Mail sidebar.The Flagged mailbox is in the sidebar if you are using more than one flag.
Click the flag name, click it again, then type a new name.
For example, you could rename Red to Urgent.
Make someone a VIP sender
You can easily find email messages from people important to you by making them VIPs. Any messages in the Inbox from a VIP (even those sent as part of an email conversation) are displayed in a VIP mailbox (a type of Smart Mailbox). You can have up to 100 VIPs.
Go to the Mail app
on your Mac.Select a message from someone you want to make a VIP.
Move the pointer next to their name in the message header, then click the star
that appears.
Click
next to VIPs in the Mail sidebar, then select a VIP to view their messages.
Archive emails
If you don’t have time to read or take action on an email message when you receive it, you can archive it. Archived messages are stored in an Archive mailbox so you can quickly find them later.
On your Mac, do any of the following:
When a Mail notification appears in the top-right corner of your screen, move the pointer over the notification, then click Archive.
If Archive isn’t an option in the notification, set the “Move discarded messages” option to Archive in Viewing settings in Mail.
In the Mail app
on your Mac, select one or more messages, then click
in the Mail toolbar.If you select an email conversation, any message in the conversation that’s in the current mailbox—for example, the Inbox—is archived; related messages that are in other mailboxes aren’t archived.
Get reminded to follow up on emails with no response
If you send a message and don’t receive a response in 3 days, the sent email automatically resurfaces to the top of your inbox to help you remember to follow up.
Go to the Mail app
on your Mac.Do either of the following:
To ignore a follow-up suggestion, swipe left on the message in the message list.
To turn this feature on or off, choose Mail > Settings, click General, then select or deselect the checkbox next to Follow Up Suggestions.
