Use window groups in Terminal on Mac
If you have an arrangement of Terminal windows that you use regularly, you can save them as a window group and have them open automatically whenever you open Terminal.
Create a window group
In the Terminal app
on your Mac, set up and arrange the windows you want in the group.Place the windows where you want them, then configure each with the desired settings and tabs. These settings are saved with the group.
Choose Window > Save Windows as Group.
Enter a name for the window group.
If you want to automatically restore remote connections and commands that are safe to run without confirmation when opening the window group, select “Restore all commands.”
If you want Terminal to open with these windows, select “Use window group when Terminal starts.”
Click Save.
Open a window group
In the Terminal app
on your Mac, choose Window > Open Window Group > [group name].
Remove a window group
In the Terminal app
on your Mac, choose Terminal > Settings.Click Window Groups.
Select a window group, then click the Remove button
.
Import a window group
In the Terminal app
on your Mac, choose Terminal > Settings, then click Window Groups.Do one of the following:
Click the Action pop-up menu
, choose Import, select the file that contains the window group, then click Open.Drag the file that contains the window group from the Finder to the window groups list.
A window group filename ends with a .terminal extension.
Export a window group
In the Terminal app
on your Mac, choose Terminal > Settings, then click Window Groups.Do one of the following:
Select the window group you want to export, click the Action pop-up menu
, choose Export, enter a name for the file, then click Save.Drag the window group you want to export from the list of window groups to the Finder.
The exported window group filename ends with a .terminal extension.
