Subscribe to Apple Music on Mac
Apple Music is a streaming music subscription service that lets you listen to millions of songs from the Apple Music catalog in addition to your music library. As a subscriber, you can listen any time, get personalized recommendations, watch exclusive video content, and more.
Note: Apple Music features may vary by country or region. Learn what’s available in your country or region.
Subscribe to Apple Music
In the Music app
on your Mac, choose Account > Join Apple Music, then follow the onscreen instructions to join Apple Music.
If you need to, sign in with your Apple ID. If you don’t have an Apple ID, you can create one during setup.
When you join Apple Music as a new subscriber, the subscription is free for a trial period. At the end of the trial period, your subscription is renewed monthly or annually. For information about turning off automatic renewal, see the Apple Support article See or cancel your subscriptions.
After you become an Apple Music subscriber, you can:
Stream recommended songs on up to 10 computers and devices
Download songs so that you can listen to them even when you’re not online
Browse new and noteworthy music, playlists, and more
Play Apple Music radio—stations created by experts that you can listen to all day
Create an Apple Music profile and then discover new music with friends by sharing your playlists and the music you’re listening to
Manage your Apple Music settings, such as notifications
Note: Any music in your music library that isn’t available in Apple Music is automatically uploaded to iCloud, so you can access it from your other computers and devices.
If you’re not a subscriber, you can purchase items from the iTunes Store and add music to your library. To learn how to add other content, see Buy or download music from the iTunes Store and Import songs from CDs.
For information about combining your Apple subscriptions, see the Apple Support article Get Apple One.
Cancel your Apple Music subscription
In the Music app
on your Mac, choose Account > View My Account, then sign in.
Under Settings, locate Subscriptions, then click Manage.
Click Edit next to the Apple Music subscription, then click Cancel Subscription.
You can also change your subscription type instead of canceling it. See the Apple Support article See or cancel your subscriptions.
Share your Apple Music subscription with Family Sharing
If you’re a member of a Family Sharing group and have a family subscription to Apple Music, your subscription is automatically shared with the family group. Family group members don’t need to do anything—Apple Music is available to them the first time they open Music after your subscription begins.
If you have a subscription to Apple Music and join a family group that’s already sharing a subscription, your subscription is not renewed on your next billing date; instead, you use the family group’s Apple Music subscription.
In the Music app
on your Mac, do any of the following:
Upgrade to a family subscription: Choose Account > Upgrade to Family, then follow the onscreen instructions.
Add more family group members: Choose Account > Add Family Members, then follow the onscreen instructions. See Add family members to a Family Sharing group.
Manage family sharing purchases: Choose Account > Manage Family, then follow the onscreen instructions. See Change the services family members use in Family Sharing on Mac.
Note: To stop sharing your Apple Music subscription with a family group, you can cancel the subscription, leave the family group, or (if you’re the family group organizer) stop using Family Sharing.
See the Apple Support article What is Family Sharing? or visit the Family Sharing website.
