Locate an item in Find My on Mac
In Find My, an item is an AirTag (macOS 11.3 or later) or third-party product (macOS 11.1 or later) registered to your Apple ID. You can use Find My to see the location of a missing item and get directions to it.
Important: In order to locate a missing item, you must register it to your Apple ID before it’s lost. See the Apple Support article Keep track of personal items using Find My.
See the location of an item
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Items.
In the Items list, select the item you want to locate.
If the item can be located: It appears on the map so you can see where it is. The updated location and timestamp appear under the item’s name. If there’s a blue circle around the item, the location is approximate.
If the item can’t be located: Below the item’s name, “No location found” appears. If you want to be notified when the location is available, click the Info button on the map, then select Notify When Found. You receive a notification once it’s located.
Get directions to an item in Maps
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Items.
In the Items list, select the item you want to get directions to, then click the Info button on the map.
Click Directions.
Note: You can also Control-click the item in the Items list, then choose Directions.
The Maps app opens with the directions from your location to the item’s current location. See Get directions in Maps.
If you want to remove an item so someone else can register it to their Apple ID, see “Remove an AirTag or other item from Find My” in the user guide for iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.
