Use Safety Check with Private Relay
Safety Check users (with iOS 17 or later) who have an iCloud+ subscription may receive a prompt to review the internet traffic protections available to them through Private Relay.
With iCloud Private Relay enabled, you can keep your internet activity private by protecting any unencrypted internet traffic and hiding your IP address with a temporary IP address. (An IP address is a unique identifier that your internet service provider assigns to internet connected devices so that you can use the internet. IP addresses don’t convey your exact location but can give a general idea of where you are and allow data collection companies to recognize you over time.) Private Relay also encrypts your DNS records so that neither Apple nor the internet service provider can see the website address you’re trying to access.
Private Relay offers two levels of protection for your IP address. You can choose:
City level: Generalize your IP address location to a roughly city-level area so that you can see localized content when you browse in Safari.
Regional level: Obscure your IP address location more thoroughly by broadening it to a more regional area that only shows your country and time zone. In this way, any apps that use an IP address to geolocate users won’t be able to access your general city-level location.
See the Apple Support article About iCloud Private Relay.
Note: Some websites, networks, and services might need to see your IP address or require the ability to audit traffic, perform network-based filtering, or view your browsing history. See the Apple Support article Manage iCloud Private Relay for specific websites, networks, or system settings.
