If Time Machine can’t unmount your backup disk
Try these suggestions if you can’t unmount your disk after a Time Machine backup.
Make sure the backup has stopped.
Make sure none of the disk’s folders or files are open in the Finder.
Check to see if Spotlight is indexing (indicated by a blue bar above Spotlight search results). Try unmounting the disk again after indexing is complete.
Your Mac also unmounts the backup disk if you restart your Mac or log out.
Thanks for your feedback.
