Paint and erase with brushes in Pixelmator Pro on iPad
Paint with brushes
Use the Paint tool to digitally paint in traditional or digital styles, create effects in your photos or designs, or paint on top of images.
In Pixelmator Pro on iPad, select the layer you want to paint in the Layers sidebar.
Select
in the Tools sidebar.
Tap
in the toolbar at the bottom, then choose a brush category (such as Basic, Pencils, and so on), and a brush shape.
To customize the brush, adjust any of the following controls in the toolbar at the bottom:
Paint toolbar (horizontal iPad orientation) Paint toolbar (vertical iPad orientation) Color: Tap the color well, then select a new paint color.
Drag the slider to make the brush smaller
or larger

Softness: Tap
, then drag the slider to the right to soften the edges of the brush.
Opacity: Drag the slider to make the brush more transparent
or less transparent
.
Smoothing: Tap
, then drag the slider to the right to increase stabilization while painting.
Blend mode: Tap
, then tap Blend Mode, then choose a blend mode to adjust how your brush strokes interact with the content in the canvas.
Advanced Settings: Tap
in the toolbar at the bottom, then tap
next to a brush name to customize the brush.
Drag in the canvas to begin painting.
Erase mistakes or parts of your image
The Erase tool lets you remove parts of a layer using the same brushes available in the Paint tool.
In Pixelmator Pro on iPad, select the layer you want to erase in the Layers sidebar.
Select
in the Tools sidebar.
Tap
in the toolbar at the bottom, then choose a brush category, and brush shape.
To customize the eraser brush, adjust any of the following controls in the toolbar at the bottom:
Drag the slider to make the brusher smaller
or larger
(if you don’t see the slider, tap the left number in the toolbar).
Softness: Tap
, then drag the slider to the right to soften the edges of the brush.
Opacity: Drag the slider to make the brush more transparent
or less transparent

Drag in the canvas to erase.
Note: The Erase tool creates areas of transparency in a single layer. If you want to erase to white or another color, you can create a white layer underneath the layer you’re erasing.
