Use VoiceOver in the Apple TV app
VoiceOver lets you control the Apple TV app without seeing the screen. You use buttons on the smart TV or streaming device remote to move around the screen, and listen as VoiceOver speaks each item you highlight.
When you highlight an item, VoiceOver speaks the item and any associated text. VoiceOver also speaks text areas on the screen, such as movie descriptions.
Note: This feature may be disabled on devices that already include a built-in screen reader. See your smart TV or streaming device user guide for more information.
Turn VoiceOver on or off
Note: If you turn on the built-in screen reader function on your smart TV, VoiceOver turns on automatically. See your smart TV user guide for more information.
In Settings in the Apple TV app , select Accessibility, then turn on VoiceOver.
As you navigate using the smart TV or streaming device remote, VoiceOver speaks each menu or text item you select. To move to a new item in the Apple TV app , do any of the following:
Move your selection in a list: Press the up, down, left, or right button.
Move to a tab in the top menu: Press the left or right button to hear the name of the menu item, then press the center button to select it.
Move to an item in a grid: Press the left or right button to hear the name of the item, then press the center button to select it.
Speak a text description: Press the up, down, left, or right button to navigate to the description.
When you reach the edge of an area on the screen, VoiceOver says, “End.”
