Record to a cell using Logic Remote on iPad
You can record to a cell, similar to recording a region in the Tracks area. If the row is associated with an audio track, you can record audio to the cell. If the cell is associated with a software instrument track, you can record MIDI to the cell. When you record to a cell, any cells playing in other rows continue playing. Use the cell settings to set the length of the recording and what happens when you finish recording.
You can set the following recording settings for a cell:
Mode: Determines what happens to existing cell content when you record in a cell.
Takes: Each new recording is added to a take folder in the cell. After recording, you can preview the takes and choose which one to use in the cell.
Merge: Each new recording merges with the previous recording. This option is available for software instruments only.
Replace: Each new recording replaces the previous recording.
Length: Determines the duration of the recording. You can set recording to stop at end of the Cell Length value, or to stop at the next bar or beat after you manually stop recording.
Cell Length: The length of the recording is determined by the Cell Length value under the Play From settings.
Bars: Recording stops at the next bar after you stop recording manually.
Beats: Recording stops at the next beat after you stop recording manually.
At Recording End: Determines what happens when the recording ends. By default, it is set to immediately play back what you just recorded. However, you can set it to continue recording multiple takes of a performance or merge multiple software instrument performances, depending on the Record mode setting.
Change to Play Mode: When recording stops, the cell immediately begins playing the recorded performance.
Continue Recording: When the recording reaches the end of the defined record length, it either overwrites the previous recording, creates takes, or merges each subsequent recording, depending on the Mode setting.
Note: You can record to a software instrument track using the Keyboard Touch Instrument by tapping the top bar to show the track above the Keyboard, record enabling the track, tapping an empty cell to record, and playing the part on the Keyboard.
Note: You can record to audio and MIDI cells, but not to Drummer or pattern cells.
