Before You Begin

Refer to a full list of tools required for all repairs.

Caution
Never reinstall a screw after it has been removed. Install only new screws. Most iPhone screw grooves are covered in adhesive that can’t be reused. Discard screws according to your local recycling guidelines.
Removal
Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.
Important
Complete back glass removal steps 1 through 3. Then continue to step 1.
Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove the five trilobe screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Remove the front camera cowling and save it for reassembly.
One front camera camera flex cable covers the other one. Lift the end of the top flex cable off the connector. Then lift off the end of the other flex cable.
Remove the front camera.
Use a torque driver and the crosshead bit to remove five crosshead screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Remove the logic board cowling and save it for reassembly.
Remove the back glass cowling and save it for reassembly.
Lift the end of the battery flex cable (1) off the connector. Then lift the ends of the back glass flex cable (2) and the camera flex cable (3) off the connectors.
Caution: You must disconnect the battery flex cable first to ensure that the iPhone stays turned off.
Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cups to release them from the back glass. Then set the back glass facedown on a clean, flat surface.
Remove the top speaker.
Remove the camera.
Caution: The camera is held in place by adhesive. Lift toward the bottom left corner to separate the camera from the adhesive.
Place the repair tray with the iPhone onto the logic board dock.
Lift the ends of the eight flex cables off the connectors.
Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove the two crosshead screws.
Use a torque driver and super screw bit to remove one super screw. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Place the logic board dock insert into the dock. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Caution: Ensure that you’re using the correct dock insert for the model you’re repairing.
Caution: Don't trap or scratch the USB-C flex cables when placing the insert.
Tilt the logic board away from the enclosure. Align the two screw holes in the logic board with the three pins on the dock insert.
Use a torque driver and the trilobe bit to remove the trilobe screw. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.
Remove the display connector cowling and save it for reassembly.
Lift the ends of the display sensor flex cable and ambient light sensor flex cable off the connectors.
Remove the logic board.
Reassembly

Place the logic board onto the logic board dock insert. Align the two screw holes in the logic board with the two pins on the dock insert.
Caution: Don't trap the flex cables under the logic board.
Press the ends of the ambient light sensor flex cable and the display flex cable to the connectors.
Position the display connector cowling over the ends of the flex cables.
Use the green torque driver and trilobe bit to install one new screw (923-13681) into the display connector cowling.
Tilt the logic board at a 45-degree angle and position it under the battery flex cable. Place the logic board into the enclosure.
Caution: Don’t pinch, stretch, or scratch the flex cables. Avoid touching components on the logic board.
Remove the repair tray from the logic board dock.
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 15 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and super screw bit to install one new super screw into the logic board (923-13701).
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 13 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new super screw into the logic board (923-13692) (1).
Set the torque value on the 10–34 Ncm adjustable torque driver to 14 Ncm. Use the adjustable torque driver and crosshead bit to install one new super screw into the logic board (923-13691) (2).
Press the ends of the eight flex cables to the connectors on the logic board.
Reinstall the following parts to complete reassembly:
Caution
System Configuration is required if you’ve installed a replacement logic board. Disregard notifications about iPhone features on the Lock Screen until you complete configuration.
After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, initiate System Configuration by putting the device into diagnostics mode. Tap Start Session and follow the onscreen prompts.
You’ll have one attempt to complete System Configuration. If the attempt is interrupted, canceled, or encounters an error, the device will display a message instructing you to contact the Self Service Repair Store team for assistance.
