Change Ethernet settings in Network preferences on Mac

Use the Ethernet pane of Network preferences on your Mac to set up and manage your Ethernet connection.

To change these preferences on your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Network , then select an Ethernet service in the list on the left.

If there’s a lock at the bottom left of the Network pane, click it to unlock the preference pane.

Option				Description
Service List				List of network services. Create a new network service: Click the Add button , click the Interface pop-up menu, then choose the type of network service you want to create. Type a name in the Service Name field, then click Create. Remove a network service: Select the network service you want to remove, then click the Remove button . Manage network services: Click the Action pop-up menu , then choose an option. You can duplicate a service, rename a service, make a service inactive, set the service order, import or export configurations and manage virtual interfaces.
Status				Ethernet connection status. Connected: Ethernet is connected to a network. The IP address is also shown. Cable Unplugged: Either the cable is not plugged in or the device at the other end of the cable is not responding.
Configure IPv4				Choose your ISP’s recommended IPv4 configuration method. Using DHCP: Choose this if you receive an IPv4 address automatically from your ISP. Using DHCP with manual address: Choose this if your ISP gave you a specific IP address and uses DHCP, then enter the IP address. Using BootP: Choose this if your ISP uses BootP. Manually: Choose this if you received a specific IPv4 address, a subnet mask and a router address from your ISP, then enter those values. Off: Choose to turn off the IPv4 settings for this interface.
DNS Server				View the DNS server settings for this connection.
Search Domains				View the search domain settings for this connection.
IPv6 Address				View the IPv6 address for this connection.
Limit IP Address Tracking				Limit IP address tracking by hiding your IP address from known trackers in Mail and Safari. If you subscribe to iCloud+ and have Private Relay turned on in iCloud preferences, it’s turned off when you deselect this option. See Use iCloud Private Relay on Mac. Note: iCloud Private Relay is currently in beta.
802.1X: <profile name> Connect				Join a network protected by 802.1X. This option is available if you have a profile installed for a network protected by 802.1X.
Advanced				Set or view additional Ethernet options such as TCP/IP configuration, DNS settings, WINS settings, 802.1X configuration profiles, proxy server settings and hardware settings.
