To get started

Find a workout

If you’ve completed at least three Fitness+ workouts, your personalised recommendations will be at the top of the app. If you can't see personalised recommendations, you can still find and filter workouts.

  1. On your iPhone, open the Fitness app and tap the Fitness+ tab. On your iPad or Apple TV, open the Fitness app.

  2. Select a workout type.

  3. Tap or select the Filter button.

  4. Tap a filter option to narrow down the workouts.

Once you've found a workout, you can:

  • Tap or select Preview to watch a preview of the workout. In the preview, the trainer will give you an idea of the structure of the workout, the playlist and the inspiration behind the workout.

  • Save a workout by tapping the Add button on your iPhone or iPad, or selecting Save Workout on your Apple TV. To access your saved workouts, scroll to My Workouts at the bottom of Fitness+.

  • Review the music playlist for the workout. If you have an Apple Music subscription, tap or select Listen in Music to add the playlist in Apple Music.

Customise workout metrics

You can adjust which metrics will appear onscreen before starting a workout, and can change them at any time during your workout.

  2. Tap or use your Apple TV remote to click the Metrics Editor button No alt supplied for Image.

Metrics

You can display your workout time, heart rate and calories burned in the top left-hand corner as you work out. Your Activity Rings progress also appears in the top right-hand corner.

Time

You can choose whether to show how much time has elapsed in your workout or how much time is remaining, or turn off the time.

Burn Bar

The Burn Bar is a way for you to compare your effort to others who've done the same workout. It adjusts to account for weight to allow for an equal comparison and is shown as your calories burned. If you leave it on, your workout data is anonymously added to the Burn Bar competition. The Burn Bar is available for High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT), Treadmill, Cycling and Rowing workouts.

Here's how the Burn Bar calculates and displays your metrics:

  • The Burn Bar takes your heart rate into consideration when determining your results. If your heart rate doesn't display, results on the Burn Bar might be affected. Find out how to get the most accurate measurements using your Apple Watch.

  • Based on your calories burned, the Burn Bar will show whether you're Behind the Pack, In the Pack, Middle of the Pack, Front of the Pack or Ahead of the Pack. The harder you work, the more opportunities you'll have to move up in the pack.

  • The Burn Bar appears two minutes into your workout. It displays based on a rolling window and is reflective of your last two minutes of work.

  • When your workout is complete, your final position on the Burn Bar is an average of your effort across the whole workout. You can view your Burn Bar result in your workout summary.
