Set separation alerts in Find My on Mac in case you leave a device behind
In the Find My app on your Mac, you can turn on separation alerts for a device so you don’t accidentally leave it behind. You can also add and remove trusted locations.
Important: Although you can manage separation alerts on Mac, you receive them on the device sharing your location. See “Set separation alerts in case you leave a device behind” in the user guide for iPhone or iPad, or Find misplaced devices in the Apple Watch User Guide.
You can set separation alerts for the following devices:
iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with iOS 15, iPadOS 15 or later
Mac laptop with Apple silicon and macOS 12 or later
Supported AirPods with the Find My network turned on
Supported iPhone Wallet with MagSafe
Turn separation alerts on or off
For most devices, you receive an alert every time it separates from the device sharing your location. For iPhone Wallet with MagSafe, you get an alert 1 minute after it separates from your iPhone.
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Devices.
In the Devices list, select a device, then click the Info button on the map.
Below Notifications, click Notify When Left Behind (or Notify When Detached).
At the top, turn on or off Notify When Left Behind (or Notify When Detached), then click Done.
Add a trusted location
A trusted location is a location where you can leave your device without receiving an alert.
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Devices.
In the Devices list, select a device, then click the Info button on the map.
Below Notifications, click Notify When Left Behind (or Notify When Detached).
Click New Location.
Tip: Former trusted locations appear in the Suggestions list so you can add them back quickly.Former trusted locations appear in the Suggestions list so you can add them back quickly.
In the search field, enter a location and press Return, or choose a suggested location.
To change the size of the location radius, click Small, Medium or Large.
Click Done, then choose whether this is a trusted location for only this device or for all your devices and items.
Click Done again.
Remove a trusted location
In the Find My app on your Mac, click Devices.
In the Devices list, select a device, then click the Info button on the map.
Below Notifications, click Notify When Left Behind (or Notify When Detached).
Next to the location you want to remove, click the Remove button .
Click Remove, then click Done.
Note: Location sharing and finding devices aren’t available in all countries or regions.
