Import bookmarks, history, and passwords from other browsers in Safari on Mac
If Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox has been your default browser, you can automatically import bookmarks, history, and (for Firefox) passwords when you first start using Safari, or manually import them later.
You can also import bookmarks that were exported in HTML format from Safari, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, OmniWeb, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox.
Imported bookmarks appear after your existing bookmarks.
Imported history appears with your existing history.
Imported passwords go into your iCloud Keychain, so you can autofill login information on websites.
Automatically import items from Chrome or Firefox
Open the Safari app.
If this is the first time you’ve opened Safari after using Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox, a message at the bottom of the Favorites or Top Sites page asks you if you want to keep imported items.
Select an option:
Keep: Safari keeps your imported bookmarks and history from Chrome, and imported bookmarks, history, and passwords from Firefox.
Don’t Keep: Safari removes your imported items.
If you don’t keep the imported items, you can return to the Favorites or Top Sites page to import the items at another time. To see the Favorites or Top Sites page, choose Bookmarks > Show Favorites or Show Top Sites.
Manually import items from Chrome or Firefox
Choose File > Import From > Google Chrome or File > Import From > Firefox, then select the items you want to import.
You can do this any time after you start using Safari, even if you imported items already.
You must have Chrome or Firefox installed on your Mac to import.
Import a bookmarks file
Choose File > Import From > Bookmarks HTML File, then select the file you want to import.
After you import bookmarks, they appear at the bottom of the sidebar in a new folder whose name begins with “Imported” and ends with the date.
Export bookmarks
Choose File > Export Bookmarks.
The exported file is named “Safari Bookmarks.html.”
To use the exported bookmarks in another browser, import the file named “Safari Bookmarks.html.”
