Export a project from iMovie on iPhone
The most efficient ways to transfer projects from one iPhone or iPad to another are to use AirDrop or iCloud Drive. If those options are not available, you can export an iMovie project, save it to your Mac, and then import the project using a different iPhone or iPad.
Exporting a movie or trailer project creates a consolidated version of the project—including all video clips, photos, and audio clips—that can be edited further. The original movie or trailer remains on the device where it was created.
Export an iMovie project
In iMovie on your device, do one of the following:
From the Projects browser: Tap the project you want to export.
If you’re editing a project: Tap Done (in the upper-left corner) to return to the project details screen, then tap the movie or trailer you want to export.
Tap the Share button , then tap Export Project.
A progress indicator appears during the export. The exported project has the same name as the original, with a version number appended (for example, Kauai Trail Biking 1).
Tap Save to Files, then tap On My iPhone.
Tap Save, then tap X.
Copy an exported project to your Mac
After you export an iMovie project using your iPhone or iPad, you can copy the exported project file to your Mac so that you can transfer it to another iPhone or iPad.
Connect your iPhone or iPad to your Mac, then open a Finder window on your Mac (click the desktop, then choose File > New Finder Window).
You may be asked to trust the computer you’re connecting your device to. To continue, tap Trust on your device.
Click the device’s name in the sidebar of the Finder window, click Files in the bar below the device name, then click the disclosure triangle next to iMovie.
Drag the project you want to copy to a folder in the Finder window.
To transfer the project to another iPhone or iPad, see Import a video clip or an iMovie project from the Finder.
