Customize the log window in Console on Mac
You can customize the appearance of log messages and activities in Console.
Customize column view
In the Console app on your Mac, do any of the following:
Show or hide columns: Control-click any column, or choose View > Visible Columns, to view all of the columns available. Choose a column name to display or hide it (visible columns have a checkmark next to their name).
Move columns: Drag a column to a new location.
Customize log message view
In the Console app on your Mac, do any of the following:
Show or hide log message details: Click the Info button in the toolbar (or use the Touch Bar), or choose View > Show Info Pane or View > Hide Info Pane. The log message details appear in the lower half of the window and show the entire message.
View the most recent log messages: Click the Now button in the toolbar (or use the Touch Bar).
Note: The Now button isn’t available if you’re browsing a log archive—just when you’re viewing the live stream of log messages.
Customize content view
In the Console app on your Mac, do any of the following:
Clear content: Click the Clear button in the toolbar (or use the Touch Bar), or choose Action > Clear. This hides log data collected to date and only shows new messages or activities.
Reload content: Click the Reload button in the toolbar (or use the Touch Bar), or choose Action > Reload. This shows hidden log messages or activities.
Use search
In the Console app on your Mac, do the following:
Apply a saved search: Click a saved search in the Favorites bar, or choose the search from the Action menu. If your Mac has a Touch Bar, you can also tap in the Touch Bar. By default, there are two saved searches: All Messages and Errors and Faults. See Find log messages and activities.
Include info or debug messages
In the Console app on your Mac, do any of the following:
Include info messages: Choose Action > Include Info Messages.
Include debug log messages: Choose Action > Include Debug Messages.
To stop including these messages, choose the option again (so the checkmark is removed).
Note: These options are only available in the Console live stream and aren’t available when you’re browsing a log archive, because info and debug log messages are automatically included in a log archive.
