View your buddy lists
Use your buddy lists to see who is available to receive messages using Jabber. iMessage doesn’t support buddy lists.
View your buddy lists
After you set up a Jabber account, you can view a buddy list for that account.
Open your buddy list: Choose Window > Buddies. If you don’t have all buddy lists collected in one window, choose the buddy list you want to view from the Window menu.
See all your buddy lists in one window: If you have multiple accounts set up, choose Messages > Preferences, click General, then select “Show all my accounts in one list.” To see your buddy lists in a separate window for each account, deselect this option.
Find a buddy in a buddy list: Click the buddy list window, press Command-F, then enter the buddy’s name.
Customize your buddy list: Click the View menu, then choose options for viewing your buddy list.
Change your name at the top of your buddy lists
Your name, which appears at the top of your buddy lists, is the same as the name on your card in Contacts.
In Contacts, choose Card > Go to My Card.
If you don’t see this option, you have to make a card for yourself, then with your card selected, choose Card > Make This My Card.
Click the Edit button, then type the name you want to use in the first and last name fields.
Close Contacts.
View a buddy profile and status
View a buddy’s profile: Select a conversation in the Messages window, or select a buddy in the buddy list, then choose Buddies > Show Profile.
View the buddy’s status and personal information: Hold the pointer over the buddy’s name in the buddy list, or select the buddy and press Command-I.
View animated buddy pictures
Choose Messages > Preferences, click General, then select “Animate buddy pictures.”
