Clean your Mac computer’s screen or display
Use the instructions below to clean the screen of your portable or desktop Mac, or to clean your Apple-manufactured display.
WARNING: Don’t clean the screen with a cleaner containing acetone. Don’t use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide to clean the screen.
WARNING: Never spray cleaner directly on the screen. It may drip inside the display and cause damage.
Clean your computer’s screen
Shut down your Mac and disconnect its power cord and any connected devices.
Dampen a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with water, then wipe the screen.
Clean the screen of an Apple-manufactured display
Disconnect the display from power, from your Mac, and from any external devices.
Use the cloth that came with the display—or another soft, dry, lint-free cloth—to wipe any dust from the screen.
If additional cleaning is required, slightly dampen the cloth with water or a cleaner intended for use with a screen or display, then wipe the screen. Avoid getting moisture in openings.
Important: If you have an Apple Pro Display XDR, its screen is either nano-texture glass or standard glass. For more information about how to clean both types of glass, see the Apple Support article How to clean your Apple Pro Display XDR.
