Import, export, and manage brushes in Pixelmator Pro on Mac
Use the brushes browser to select a brush for painting or erasing. You can customize the brushes browser and use it to import, export, or create new brushes.
In Pixelmator Pro on Mac, select the Paint or Erase tool from the Tools sidebar.
Click the brushes browser pop-up menu at the top of the Paint pane or Erase pane.
Do any of the following:
Search for a brush: Use the search field at the top of the browser to search for specific brushes by name.
Create a new brush: Click
in the top-right corner of the Brushes Browser. A duplicate of the currently selected brush is created.
Move or rearrange a brush: Drag a brush to a new location in the menu, or drag it to any other collection in the sidebar on the left.
Rename, duplicate, reset, remove, or add a brush to Favorites: Position the pointer over the brush you’d like to edit, click the arrow that appears, then choose an option from the menu.
Rename, duplicate, or remove a brush collection: Position the pointer over the brush collection you’d like to edit, click
, then choose an option from the menu.
Rearrange brush collections: Drag the brush collection to a new location in the brushes browser.
Export a Pixelmator Pro brush: Drag any of the brushes from the browser to the macOS desktop or a finder window.
A .brushes file is created.
Export a brush collection: Position the pointer over the brush collection, click
, then choose Export.
A .brushes file is created containing the brush collection.
Import a brush collection: Position the pointer over a brush collection, click
, then choose Import, and choose a .brushes file.
To import a Pixelmator Pro or Adobe Photoshop brush into Pixelmator Pro, drag it onto the Pixelmator Pro icon in the Dock.
Important: If you want to use custom brushes created in an earlier version of Pixelmator Pro (Pixelmator Pro 3.7 or earlier), you must export them from the earlier version, then import them into Pixelmator Pro 4.
