Split the bill with Apple Cash
Learn how to request or send Apple Cash using a receipt.
What you need
An iPhone, iPad, or Apple Watch the latest version of iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS
To scan a receipt, you need an iPhone or iPad with Apple Intelligence and Siri enabled on your device.2
Request payment from a friend or group
Open Messages, Wallet, Camera, Photos, or take a screenshot:
On iPhone or iPad, open a conversation in Messages, tap the + button, tap Apple Cash, then tap Split Bill.

Position a receipt in view of the camera, then tap the , or tap the image chooser and select a receipt.
On iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap your Apple Cash card, then tap Send or Request. Select a person or add people, then tap the Split Bill button. Position a receipt in view of the camera, then tap the , or tap the image chooser and select a receipt.
On iPhone, open the Camera app and tap Siri at the bottom or press and hold Camera Control. Position a receipt in view of the camera, then tap Split Bill with Apple Cash when it appears.
On iPhone, open the Photos app, then open a photo of a receipt. Swipe up on the photo, then tap Split Bill with Apple Cash when it appears.
On iPhone, take a screenshot with a receipt onscreen, then tap Split Bill with Apple Cash when it appears.
Tap Request in the menu that appears.
Select a conversation or add people if you haven't already.
Review the request and make adjustments if necessary:
Swipe left on an item and tap the Edit button or Delete button.
Tap the item quantity and tap the - or + buttons.

If a tip is needed, tap Add Tip and select an option.
Choose how you want to split the bill:
To split the bill by item, tap Request from [Name or Number] or Share with Group.
To split the bill evenly, select Split Evenly, use the - and + buttons to choose how many people to split the bill with, then tap Request [amount] from [Name or Number] or Request [amount] per Person.
Tap the Send button.
Pay your share of the bill from a request
If another person paid the bill, they can request payment from you in a message.
On your iPhone or iPad
Open the Messages app on your iPhone or iPad, open the conversation that contains the request, then tap Pay [name].
If the bill is split by item, select the items that you want to pay for. You can tap the - button next to an item to split the cost in half or more for shared items, or tap the + button to increase the quantity.

If the bill is split evenly, the requested amount appears. If you want to change the amount, use the - and + buttons.
Tap Pay [Name] [Amount], then tap the Send button.
To pay, double-click the side button, then confirm your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
On your Apple Watch
You can pay from your Apple Watch whenever you split a bill evenly. For all other requests, you can select your items and complete the request on your iPhone or iPad.
Open the Messages app.
Open the conversation that contains the Apple Cash request.
Tap Pay [Name] [Amount], then tap the Send button.
To pay, double-click the side button to confirm your payment.
Pay your share of the bill from a receipt
If you want to pay your share of a bill without waiting for someone to request it, you can scan a physical receipt using the camera on your device.
Open Messages, Wallet, Camera, Photos, or take a screenshot:
On iPhone or iPad, open the Messages app, tap the conversation with the person you want to pay, tap the + button, tap Apple Cash, then tap Split Bill. Position a receipt in view of the camera, then tap the Take Picture button.
On iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap your Apple Cash card, then tap Send or Request. Select a person, then tap the Split Bill button. Position a receipt in view of the camera, then tap the , or tap the image chooser and select a receipt.
On iPhone, open the Camera app and tap Siri at the bottom or press and hold Camera Control. Position a receipt in view of the camera, then tap Split Bill with Apple Cash when it appears.
On iPhone, open the Photos app, then open a photo of a receipt. Swipe up on the photo, then tap Split Bill with Apple Cash when it appears.
On iPhone, take a screenshot with a receipt onscreen, then tap Split Bill with Apple Cash when it appears.
Tap Pay Your Share, then select a conversation or add people if you haven’t already.
Select the items that you want to pay for. You can tap the - button next to an item to split the cost in half or more for shared items, or tap the + button to increase the quantity.
If you want to add a tip, tap Add Tip and select an option.
Tap Pay [Name] [Amount], then tap the Send button. If you're in a group message, tap Pay [Amount], tap the recipient you want to pay, then tap the Send button.
To pay, double-click the side button, then confirm your payment with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.
View your open requests
Your requests stay open for up to 30 days, until fully paid, or marked complete.
On your iPhone, open the Wallet app and tap your Apple Cash card.
In the Requests section, tap a conversation to see:
Who made payments
How much Apple Cash you’ve received
If you no longer want to track the request, tap Mark as Complete.
You can also see payments you've received in the Latest Transactions section. A appears below the amount if the request is from a group conversation. To view past requests on iPad, go to Settings, tap Wallet & Apple Pay, tap Apple Cash, then tap Transactions.
