Set location notifications for friends in Find My on Mac
You can let a friend know when your location changes and get notifications about a friend’s location.
Important: Make sure you allow notifications for the Find My app. See Change Notifications settings on Mac.
If you’re sharing your location with your family, you can also set location notifications for them by following the steps below.
Notify a friend when your location changes
In the Find My app on your Mac, click People.
In the People list, select a name, then click the Info button on the map.
Below Notifications, click Add, then choose Notify [Friend].
Choose whether you want to notify your friend when you arrive at or leave a location.
Choose your current location, your friend’s current location, or click New Location to create a new location and set a location radius.
With a larger radius, your friend is notified when you’re close to the location instead of right at the location.
Choose whether you want your friend to be notified only once or every time your location changes.
Click Add.
Get notified when your friend’s location changes
You can receive a notification when your friend arrives at or leaves a location, or if they’re not at a specific location during a set schedule. For example, you can be notified if your child isn’t at school during school hours.
In the Find My app on your Mac, click People.
In the People list, select a name, then click the Info button on the map.
Below Notifications, click Add, then choose Notify Me.
Choose whether you want to be notified when a friend arrives at, leaves, or is not at a location.
Choose your friend’s current location, your current location, or click New Location to create a new location and set a location radius.
With a larger radius, you’re notified when your friend is close to the location instead of right at the location.
Depending on the notification, you can choose how often or when you want to be notified.
Frequency: Select whether you want to be notified only once or every time.
Time and Days: Select a start and end time, then select the days of the week.
Note: You can only create recurring notifications for friends who have two-factor authentication turned on. See the Apple Support article Two-factor authentication for Apple ID.
Click Add, then click OK.
If you set a one-time notification, your friend gets an alert immediately after you set the notification.
If you set a recurring notification, your friend must approve it before it’s set. They get an alert asking for approval when they arrive at or leave the location you chose, or on the time and day the notifications start.
You can set a maximum of 25 Notify Me notifications.
