Charge AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max
Charge AirPods or AirPods Pro
Put your AirPods in their case.
Close the lid.
AirPods shut down and charge whenever they’re in the case with the lid closed.
Charge the AirPods or AirPods Pro case
Charge with a cable: Connect the case to a power outlet using a Lightning to USB Cable and a compatible power adapter.
If you have AirPods 4 (both models) or AirPods Pro 2 (USB-C), connect the case to a power outlet using a USB-C cable and a compatible power adapter.
Charge with MagSafe: For AirPods 3 (MagSafe) or AirPods Pro, place the case with the status light facing up on the center of a MagSafe wireless charger.
Charge with a Qi-certified charger: For AirPods 2, AirPods 3 (MagSafe), AirPods 4 (ANC), or AirPods Pro, place the case with the status light facing up on the center of a Qi-certified charger.
Charge with an Apple Watch charger: For AirPods Pro 2 or AirPods 4 (ANC), place the case—with the status light facing up—on the center of an Apple Watch wireless charger.
When the case is aligned properly with the charger, the status light turns on for several seconds, then turns off while the case continues to charge. By default, the charging case for AirPods 4 (ANC) and AirPods Pro 2 also plays a sound, but you can turn it off. See Turn off charging case sounds on AirPods 4 (ANC) and Turn off charging case sounds on AirPods Pro 2.
Charge AirPods Max
AirPods Max (Lightning): Connect AirPods Max to a power outlet using a Lightning to USB Cable and a compatible power adapter.
AirPods Max (USB-C): Connect AirPods Max to a power outlet using a USB-C cable and a compatible power adapter.
Note: To help maintain the battery charge when you’re not using AirPods Max, put AirPods Max in sleep mode by placing them in the Smart Case. (You can’t play audio on AirPods Max when they’re in the Smart Case.)

Check the charge status
You can check the battery percentage of your AirPods, AirPods Pro, or AirPods Max on iPhone, iPad, or Mac.
Wear your AirPods and make sure they’re connected to your device.
Do one of the following:
iPhone or iPad: Go to Settings , then tap the name of your AirPods near the top of the screen to see the battery percentage.
You can also add a widget to quickly check the battery level of your devices, including your AirPods. To learn more, see the iPhone User Guide or the iPad User Guide.
Mac: Click in the menu bar to see the battery percentage of your AirPods.
If isn’t in the menu bar, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Control Center in the sidebar. Click the pop-up menu next to Bluetooth , then choose Show in Menu Bar.
Tip: If your AirPods or AirPods Pro are in the case and the lid is open, the light on the case shows the charge status of your AirPods. When your AirPods aren’t in the case, the light shows the status of your case. Green means fully charged, and amber means less than one full charge remains. If no light appears, you may need to charge your AirPods before you can use them again.
