Set up and use Notify When Left Behind in the Find My app

With Notify When Left Behind, your iPhone will alert you when you leave a supported Apple device, AirTag, or Find My network accessory at an unknown location. Learn how to set up Notify When Left Behind in the Find My app. And add locations where you don’t want to be notified if something's left there.

Here's what you need

• Update your iPhone to the latest version of iOS

• Add your Apple devices and accessories to Find My

You can use Notify When Left Behind on an iPhone with iOS 15 or later, iPad with iPadOS 15 or later, Mac with Apple Silicon, and with Find My items. For AirPods Pro, AirPods Max, and AirPods (3rd generation), you need an iPhone 12 or later.

Set up Notify When Left Behind

1. On your iPhone, open the Find My app.

2. Tap Devices or Items.

3. Tap a device.

   

4. Under Notifications, tap Notify When Left Behind. If you don't see Notify When Left Behind, then that device might not be supported.

5. Turn Notify When Left Behind on or off.

See where you left your device

1. After you set up Notify When Left Behind, you get a notification on your iPhone when you leave a device or item at an unknown location.*

   

2. Tap the notification to see where you left the item.

3. Tap Continue to open the Find My app.

   

4. From the Find My app you can:

   • Tap Directions to your device or item left behind.

   • Tap Don't Notify Me Here if you don't want to be notified when you leave something at that location.

Add locations where you don't want to be notified

1. On your iPhone, open the Find My app.

2. Tap Devices or Items.

3. Tap a device.

4. Under Notifications, tap Notify When Left Behind.

   

5. From here you can:

   • See your Home as a location where you won't be notified.

   • Tap New Location to add locations where you don't want to be notified when something's left there.

   • Tap the delete button next to a location where you want to be notified when something's left there.
