
Read local news in News on Mac
In Apple News, you can set up a local news feed to stay up to date on news, events, and weather in the places that matter to you most. You can follow your preferred locations and customize them to prioritize news from a specific city, town, or neighborhood. News stories from the primary location you follow also appear in your Today feed.
Note: Apple News isn’t available in all countries or regions. The local news feed is available in the U.S. only. In other countries where Apple News is available, you can follow the locations you want to get news from. See the Apple Support article Availability of Apple Media Services.
Set up your local news feed
Go to the News app
on your Mac.Click Local in the sidebar, click Locations, then do either of the following:
If you don’t follow any locations: Click Get Started.
If you follow one or more locations in Local News: Click Manage Locations.
Do any of the following:
Search for a news feed using your current location: If you’re getting started with local news, click Current Location. If you follow one or more locations, click the search field, then click Current Location.
Search for a location: Click the search field, enter a city, town, or zip code, then select a location from the search results.
Search by state or country: Scroll down and select a state or country. A list of locations in that state or country appears.
Click
next to the location you want to follow, then click
or
to go back to the list of locations.Click
to go back to the local news feed.
Note: When you follow your first local news feed, it’s set as your primary location by default. To change your primary location, drag the news feed you want to prioritize to the top of your Following list.
Locations you follow are listed in the sidebar under Local News.
Read local news
Go to the News app
on your Mac.Click Local in the sidebar, then click a story to read it.
Customize the news feed for a location
After you follow a location, you can choose a specific city, town, or neighborhood to prioritize for news and weather.
Go to the News app
on your Mac.Click Local in the sidebar, then click Locations.
Click Manage Locations.
Click Customize under the name of a location you follow. If you previously added a specific location, click the location’s name.
Click the search field, enter a city, town, or zip code, then select a location from the search results.
Change locations in your local news feed
Go to the News app
on your Mac.Under Local News in the sidebar, select the news feed you want to view.
Follow local publishers
When you search for local news feeds by state or country, you can follow their local publishers directly.
Go to the News app
on your Mac.Click Local in the sidebar, then click Locations.
Click Manage Locations, then scroll down and select a state or country.
Scroll down to Local Publishers, then click
next to the publishers you want to follow.
