Caution

This procedure requires System Configuration. After you’ve completed all removal and reassembly steps, follow the instructions to initiate System Configuration.

Removal

Note: If you’ve already completed the removal steps, skip to reassembly.

Important

Complete back glass removal steps 1 through 5. Then continue to step 1.

  1. Use a torque driver and trilobe bit to remove eight trilobe screws, two from the battery cowling, two from the FaceTime camera cowling, one from the upper antenna 1, and three from the logic board upper cowling. Remove the three cowlings and save them for reassembly. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Lift the ends of the battery flex cable (1), the back glass flex cable (2), and the FaceTime camera flex cable (3) off the connectors.

    • Hold the back glass by the edges. Pull the tabs on the suction cup to release them from the back glass. Then set the back glass facedown on a clean, flat surface.

  2. Use a torque driver and crosshead bit to remove seven crosshead screws. Then complete the entire step before continuing to the next step.

    • Move the upper antenna flex cable away from the camera spacer. Then remove the camera spacer from the enclosure.

    • Lift the end of the Wi-Fi flex cable and the ends of the two camera flex cables off the connectors.

    • Remove the camera cap.

    • Peel the upper antenna 4 flex cable off the camera just enough to reveal the super screw.

      • Caution: Don't touch the camera lenses.

  3. Use a torque driver and super screw bit to remove two super screws.

    • Place the camera cap on the camera.

  4. Remove the camera from the enclosure.

    • Note: Ensure that the camera cap remains on the camera after the camera has been removed from the enclosure.

  5. Remove the FaceTime camera.

  6. Lift the end of the upper antenna 1 flex cable off the connector and remove it from the enclosure.

  7. Lift the ends of the seven remaining flex cables off the connectors on the logic board.

  8. Use a torque driver and super screw bit to remove three super screws from the logic board.

  9. Remove the logic board from the enclosure.

    • Caution: Ensure that the flex cables don't get caught on the logic board as you remove it.

Reassembly

Screw location diagram

  1. Position the logic board in the enclosure.

    • Caution: Don't catch flex cables on the logic board hooks or trap them under the logic board.

  2. Use the teal torque driver and super screw bit to install three new super screws into the logic board.

    • One screw (923-16040) (G1)

    • Two screws (923-16044) (G2, G3)

  3. Reinstall the upper antenna 1 flex cable. Then press the end of the flex cable to the connector on the logic board.

  4. Press the ends of seven flex cables to the connectors on the logic board.

  5. Use the green torque driver and trilobe bit to install one new trilobe screw (923-16026) (G6) into the upper antenna 1.

  6. Use the gray torque driver and crosshead bit to install two new crosshead screws into the lower antenna flex cable.

    • 923-16030 (G4)

    • 923-16025 (G5)
