About Recovery Assistant for iPhone and iPad
Recovery Assistant helps resolve startup issues by downloading a software package.
If Recovery Assistant appears, click Continue to start the recovery process. The recovery process may take several minutes to complete.
The recovery process requires a Wi-Fi connection.1
After the recovery process completes, restart your device. If the startup issue continues, make sure your device is on the latest version of iOS or iPadOS. If your device is on the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, use recovery mode to restore your iPhone or iPad. If the issue persists, get service.
If you need to manually start Recovery Assistant:
Connect your device to a computer or power source.
Power the device off.
Press and hold the side button until you see the connect to computer screen, then release the side button.
Double press the side button.
Click Continue.
Review the information and choose to send or not send data to Apple.

To help diagnose the problem, you can choose to share diagnostic and log files from this device with Apple. Sharing diagnostic and log files will include data from before the issue occurred and could contain sensitive or personal information, such as your name, device serial number, or file names. Sharing this data is optional.
Apple collects device metadata (model, software version, disk size, free space), system stability logs, and recent activity logs during the recovery process.
Apple will use the data you send to troubleshoot device issues and won't share the data with any other company. Apple handles this data as described in its privacy policy.
