QuickTime Player 10.x: Open and play movies in QuickTime Player

Open and play movies in QuickTime Player

You can use QuickTime Player to play media stored on your computer’s hard disk or the Internet.

  • In the Finder, double-click the file or drag it to the QuickTime Player application icon.
  • In QuickTime Player, choose File > Open File, and then select the file.
  • To open a movie on the Internet, open QuickTime Player, choose File > Open Location, and then enter the URL (the Internet address) for the movie file.

QuickTime Player has onscreen controls similar to those found on DVD and CD players. Use the controls to play, pause, rewind, fast-forward, and adjust the volume of a QuickTime movie.
