iPhoto '11: Publish your photos to Facebook

Publish your photos to Facebook

You can publish your photos directly from iPhoto to your Facebook account, so that your Facebook friends can view and tag your photos. You can also publish video clips to your Facebook Wall. After you publish photos or video clips from iPhoto to Facebook, you can add comments to and manage the published items using iPhoto or Facebook, and sync your changes.

To publish your photos to Facebook:

  1. Select the photos or video clips you want to publish.

  2. In the toolbar, click the Share button and choose Facebook from the pop-up menu.

  3. Do one of the following:

    • If you have a Facebook account but you’re not logged in, click Set Up, type your account email address and password, and then click Login.

    • To create a Facebook account, click Set Up and then follow the onscreen instructions.

    • If you’re logged in to Facebook, choose the album you want to add your photos to.

You can publish single photos to your Wall by clicking Wall. Video clips must be published to your Wall.

  4. In the window that appears, choose an option from the “Photos Viewable by” pop-up menu.

Note:   If you are publishing to your Facebook Wall, this option isn’t available. Instead, you can add a caption for the set of photos.
  5. Click Publish.

To view your published album, click your Facebook account in the Source list (below Web), and then double-click the album. When you visit Facebook, you can use this album in the same way you use any other Facebook album.

You can see whether you published a photo to Facebook. Select the photo, click the Info button in the toolbar, and look in the Sharing section. (If you don’t see a Sharing section, you haven’t shared the photo.)

To view your published photos on Facebook:

  1. In the Source list, click your Facebook account, and then double-click the published album.

If you’re in full-screen view, click Albums in the toolbar, and then scroll down to the Facebook section.

  2. Click the arrow next to the album’s name at the top of the window.

To add comments to photos and view comments from friends:

You can add comments to photos you share with your Facebook account from within iPhoto. You can also view the comments your friends add to your shared photos in the Comments section of the Info pane.

  1. In the Source list, click the Facebook account, and then double-click the Facebook album whose photos you want to comment on or view comments for.

  2. Select a photo.

  3. In the toolbar, click the Info button.

  4. In the Info pane, do one of the following:

    • To add a comment to a photo: Click the “Add a comment” button at the bottom of the Comments section, type your comment, and press Return.

The comment is added to the photo in iPhoto and Facebook. Comments that your friends have added to the photo in Facebook also appear in the Comments section.

    • To delete a comment from a photo: In the Comments section of the Info pane, move the pointer above the comment, and then click the Delete button that appears in the top-right portion of the comment.

If you’re in full-screen view, click Albums in the toolbar, and then scroll down to the Facebook section.

  2. Do one of the following:

    • To delete the entire album, select it and then press Command-Delete.

If you published this album from iPhoto, the album no longer appears on Facebook, but the photos remain in your photo library.

If you created the album on Facebook and then synced the album with iPhoto, you can import the photos before the album is deleted. (If you don’t import the photos into iPhoto, they won’t appear in your library.)

    • To delete specific photos, open the album, select the photos, and then press the Delete key.

Important:   If you delete photos and albums from iPhoto, they’re deleted from your Facebook page, along with any posted comments. You can’t undo this action. To delete photos and albums from iPhoto without deleting them from Facebook, first remove the Facebook account from iPhoto. Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click Accounts. Click to select the Facebook account (below the Accounts subhead on the left), and then click the Delete (-) button in the lower-left corner of the Accounts pane.

To change your Facebook profile picture from iPhoto:

  1. In iPhoto, select the photo you want to use as your Facebook profile picture.

  2. In the toolbar, click the Share button, and then choose Facebook from the pop-up menu.
