What is a “MobileMe box”?
A MobileMe box contains an activation code to start or renew a one year MobileMe subscription. MobileMe boxes were sold in Apple Retail Stores, the Apple Online Store, and other authorized resellers until June 6, 2011. There are Individual and Family Pack versions of the box.

How do I know if I’m eligible for a refund?
If you purchased a MobileMe box and your activation code has not been used to start or renew a MobileMe subscription, then you may be eligible for a refund. Please read through the information below to determine what kind of refund applies to you.

All MobileMe box refund requests must be submitted by June 30, 2012.

 

Box refund eligibility and instructions for MobileMe members

If you have an active MobileMe subscription, you are eligible for a MobileMe box refund if either of the following scenarios apply:

  • You have an additional activation code in your account that has not yet been used to renew your subscription. To determine if this applies to you log in to me.com/account. If you have an additional code, you will see a message similar to the one below.
    Your account also has an additional activation code that is eligible for a refund. You can submit a refund request until Jun 30, 2012.
  • You purchased a MobileMe box from an Apple Retail Store, the Apple Online Store, or an authorized reseller, but have not entered the activation code at www.me.com/activate.

If you are eligible, please follow the procedures below to request your refund:

  1. Log into me.com/account. If there is an unused code listed in your account, click the Request Refund button (see example above).
  2. If there is not an additional code listed, visit the Refund Request form and select "I am a MobileMe member."
  3. Fill out the form with your information.
  4. If you have any activation codes that have not been added to your MobileMe account, Apple will send you an email requesting a scan or photo of those activation codes.  Reply to that email with a scan or photo of your activation code(s).
  5. Upon receipt, Apple will verify your documents and calculate the applicable refund.
  6. You will receive a refund in 4-6 weeks via check, electronic funds transfer, or credit card, depending on how and where you made the purchase (as described later in this article).

Required proof-of-purchase materials
For activation codes that have not been added to a MobileMe account, you will need to provide a scan or photo of the unused activation code(s), which is located on the booklet inside the MobileMe box.

 

Box refund eligibility and instructions for non-members

If you do not have an active MobileMe subscription, you are still eligible for a refund if you purchased a MobileMe box from an Apple Retail Store, the Apple Online Store, or an authorized reseller and have not entered the code on www.me.com/activate. To receive a refund, you will need to follow the refund process and provide all required proof-of-purchase documentation.

If you are eligible, please follow the procedures below to request your refund:

  1. Visit the online Refund Request form.
  2. Fill out the form with your information.
  3. Apple will send you an email requesting a scan or photo of your proof-of-purchase information.
  4. Reply to that email with the proof-of-purchase.
  5. Upon receipt, Apple will verify your documents and calculate the applicable refund.
  6. You will receive a refund in 4-6 weeks via check, electronic funds transfer, or credit card, depending on how and where you made the purchase (as described later in this article).

Required proof-of-purchase materials
To receive a refund for your MobileMe box purchase, please provide a scan or photo of the following:

  • Your purchase receipt.
  • The unused activation code, which is located on the booklet inside the MobileMe box.

 

Canceling an active MobileMe subscription

If you current subscription was activated or renewed with a credit card, please contact MobileMe Support. If your current subscription was activated or renewed with a MobileMe activation code purchased from an Apple Retail Store, the Apple Online Store, or an authorized reseller, follow the instructions below to request a cancelation and refund. You will need to provide all required proof-of-purchase documentation.

Please follow the procedures below to request your cancelation and refund:

  1. Visit the online Cancelation Request form.
  2. Fill out the form with your information.
  3. If you also request a refund for any additional unused activation codes, Apple will send you an email requesting a scan or photo of your activation codes. Reply to that email with a scan or photo of your unused activation codes.
  4. Apple will verify your documents, calculate the applicable refund, and cancel your MobileMe account.
  5. You will receive a refund in 4-6 weeks via check, electronic funds transfer, or credit card, depending on how and where you made the purchase (as described later in this article).

General Questions

 

How many boxes can I submit for a refund?
If you're a MobileMe member, you can submit up to three (3) unused boxes, plus one (1) unused activation code that was already entered in your account (if applicable). If you choose to cancel your MobileMe subscription, you can also receive a pro-rated refund of the activation code currently being used.

If you are not a MobileMe member, you can request a refund for one (1) unused box.

How do I attach a receipt to my email reply?

If you have a printed receipt

  1. Scan or take a photo of your receipt.
  2. Save the scan or photo to your computer's desktop.
  3. Open the email Apple sent you requesting the receipt and click Reply.
  4. Attach your receipt file to the reply email.

If your original receipt was emailed to you

Your original email receipts may have been delivered in the body of an email message or as an attachment.

If your receipt appears in the body of an email:

  1. Select the images and the text in the body of the email and use the Copy command.
  2. Open the email Apple sent you requesting the receipt and click Reply.
  3. Click in the body of the reply email and use the Paste command.

If your receipt was delivered as an email attachment:

  1. Save the attachment to your desktop.
  2. Open the email Apple sent you requesting the receipt and click Reply.
  3. Attach the receipt file from your desktop.
How do I attach my unused activation code to my email reply?
 
If you have an unused activation code
 
You must submit a scan or photo of any unused activation code in order to receive a refund. The activation code is located on the front panel of the booklet inside the MobileMe box.
  1. Scan or take a photo of the unused activation code.
  2. Save that file to your desktop.
  3. Open the email Apple sent you requesting the activation code and click Reply.
  4. Attach the activation code file from your desktop.

How do I mail a copy of my receipt and unused activation code?

  • Include your Case ID from the email Apple sent you in the documents you mail Apple. 
  • Mail the requested proof of purchase materials to:

What if I no longer have my receipt?
If you purchased from an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Reseller, please contact them directly to request a duplicate receipt.

If I purchased a MobileMe box from the Apple Online Store or over the phone, what do I submit as my receipt?
If you purchased from the Apple Online Store or over the phone, your Apple Store Shipment Notification email qualifies as your receipt. Be sure to include all Shipment Notification emails pertaining to the qualifying products. Please note that Apple Store Order Acknowledgements will not be accepted.

If I no longer have my Apple Store Shipment Notification email, how can I obtain a duplicate copy?
If you purchased from the Apple Online Store, log into http://www.apple.com/orderstatus, click on the appropriate order number, and print your Invoice Receipt. Be sure to submit all receipts pertaining to the qualifying products.

How long does it take to receive a refund?
Refunds will be processed in 4-6 weeks.

How do I check the status of my refund?
After you  submit your proof-of-purchase documentation, it usually takes 4-6 weeks to receive your refund. If you have waited longer than six weeks, contact MobileMe Support to inquire about the status of your request.

How much money will be refunded?
If you had an unused activation code or if it was used for 45 days or less

You will receive a full refund, minus any shipping costs or rebates that were applied to your original purchase.

If your activation code was used for 46 days or more

You will receive a pro-rated refund, minus any shipping costs or rebates that were applied to your original purchase.

Note: Your refund will be calculated based on the date you submitted your request.

Can I just return my box to an Apple Retail Store?
Yes. If you purchased the MobileMe box within the last 14 days from an Apple Retail Store and have not opened it, then you may take it to an Apple Retail Store and obtain a refund there. See the Apple Retail Store return policy for details.

Note: If you have opened the box or purchased it more than 14 days ago, you must follow the refund process described at the beginning of this article.

Can I return my box to the authorized reseller I bought it from?
Authorized resellers may only accept a return of your MobileMe box if it is unopened and you are within their return policy. Authorized resellers will not accept returns of opened MobileMe boxes. If an authorized reseller is unable to provide you with a refund, follow the steps at the beginning of this article to submit your refund request to Apple.

How will I receive my refund?
If you purchased your MobileMe box directly from Apple using a credit card

Your refund will be credited back to your credit card. If that card is no longer valid, you will receive a check or electronic funds transfer, depending on the laws in your country.

If you purchased your MobileMe box from an authorized reseller

You will receive a check or electronic funds transfer, depending on the laws in your country.
