Mac OS X: How to scan with Image Capture

- Connect a compatible scanner to your computer.
- Install any necessary software drivers that came with the scanner. Note: Not all scanners require the installation of additional software drivers.
- Turn on the scanner.
- Place something you want to scan into the scanner.
- Press the scan button on the scanner. See the documentation that came with the scanner for specific instructions. Image Capture opens automatically, and a preview scan appears.
- In Image Capture, select the area of the image you want to scan.
- Adjust other settings if desired. The kinds of settings available will vary based on capabilities of the scanner; a sample scanner's settings are shown above.
- Click Scan.
- The scanned image is saved in your Pictures folder in your home directory (unless you changed the Scan To Folder setting), and opened in Preview.
