iTunes: Purchasing and viewing HD Videos
Summary
Video purchases from the iTunes Store are delivered in Standard Definition (SD), which can be played on your computer, iPod, iPhone, or Apple TV. Some videos are also offered in High Definition (HD). HD videos feature a higher-quality picture, but are designed to be played only on your computer or Apple TV. Whenever you purchase an HD video from the iTunes Store, you will also receive the SD version.

Once you've made your purchase in iTunes, both the HD and SD versions will begin to download immediately.
After both the files finish downloading, they will then show as one item in your iTunes library.
Note: When purchasing HD videos on Apple TV, only the HD video will download to your Apple TV, the SD video will need to be downloaded by choosing Store > Check for Available Downloads.
You now have the option to choose between HD and SD for video playback of your purchased HD videos. To choose between HD and SD, control+click or right-click on the video, choose Version, then select the desired version (HD or SD).
