Top up your transit card with Apple Pay

Use Apple Pay to add money to refill your transit card on your iPhone or Apple Watch. If you manage a family member's Apple Watch on your iPhone, you can also remotely add money to their transit card.

How to top up your transit card on your iPhone

  1. In the Wallet app, tap your transit card.

  2. Tap Add money.

  3. Choose an amount to add to your card and tap Add.

  4. Choose a card to pay with and complete the transaction with Face ID or Touch ID1.

How to top up your transit card on your Apple Watch

  1. In the Wallet app, tap your transit card.

  2. Tap Add Money.

  3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

How to top up a family member's transit card

If you manage a family member's Apple Watch with your iPhone, you can also add money to the transit card on their Apple Watch. When they make a request, respond and top up their card.

  1. Tap the request in iMessage.

  2. Choose an amount to send.

  3. Tap the send buttonNo alt supplied for Image.

  4. Confirm the purchase with Face ID or Touch ID.

If you can't top up your transit card

  • Learn what to do if you add money and your balance doesn't update in the Wallet app.

  • If you don't see the option to add money, check with your local transit agency to see how you can add money to your transit card in the Wallet app.

  • If you can't top up your family member's transit card, check that they haven't removed the card from their Apple Watch.

  • If you have questions about or need a refund, contact your local transit agency.

  1. A Hong Kong-issued Visa, Mastercard, or UnionPay card that you use with Apple Pay is required to purchase or top up an Octopus card in the Wallet app. If you have a credit or debit card that isn't issued in Hong Kong, use the Octopus App for Tourists app instead. A China UnionPay credit or debit card is required to purchase or top up a transit card for China mainland.
