Summary
This article explains how to view capacity and disk usage on iPhone, iPad, and iPod.
Products Affected
iPad, iPhone, iPod, iTunes
You can sync and download many different types of content on your device. Some types of content (such as music and videos) typically take more space than others (such as notes and books). The amount of space taken by an app depends on the app's purpose; complex or graphically intense apps usually take more space than simpler apps.
If your device is near its capacity, you can remove some of the less used content to make room for more.
View usage on iOS
Tap Settings > General > Usage to view the amount of space each app and its content takes on your device.

Tap an app for more detailed information about its usage.

Depending on the app, you may also be able to delete some of the app's content, or delete the app and its content.
View usage on iTunes
iTunes divides used content into categories indicated on the bottom of the screen when you have selected your device.
- Audio: Includes songs, audio podcasts, audiobooks, voice memos, and ringtones
- Video: Includes movies, music videos, and TV shows
- Photos: Includes Camera Roll contents, Photo Stream, and Photo Library
- Apps: Includes installed apps and their content
- Books
- Other: Everything else, such as contacts, calendars, messages, emails and their attachments, Safari Offline Reading List, settings, and other system resources.
Hover the pointer over the content for more detailed information, such as usage and item count:

iTunes displays how much space the selected songs, videos, audiobooks, and apps use in the status bar on the bottom of the screen. Alternatively, you can view this by selecting an item and then choosing File > Get Info. The size is available in the Summary tab.
You can transfer or sync content to your computer from your device. If you want to remove only certain content from your device, learn how to manually manage content using iTunes.
