Change Advanced preferences in iTunes on PC
In the iTunes app on your PC, use the Advanced pane in iTunes preferences to set and organize your iTunes Media folder, choose how to show MiniPlayer and movie windows, and more.
To change these preferences, choose Edit > Preferences, then click Advanced.
iTunes Media folder location
To change where songs and other files you import into iTunes are located, click Change.
To change back to the original location for files (Music\iTunes), click Reset.
Keep iTunes Media folder organized
Automatically put imported music into folders for album and artist.
Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library
Copy an item to the iTunes Media folder when you drag the item to the iTunes window or choose File > Add to Library.
If you want items to appear in iTunes but also remain in their original location, deselect this checkbox. For example, you can keep music imported from CDs on your computer and save your video files on an external storage device.
Pressing the Option key while dragging temporarily reverses the current checkbox setting.
Share iTunes Library XML with other applications
Allow other applications to access your iTunes library.
Reset all dialog warnings
If you selected “Do not show this message again” in one or more dialogs (small windows with messages in them), clicking “Reset warnings” makes the messages appear again.
Reset iTunes Store cache
iTunes saves the store pages you visit on your computer in a temporary location called the cache. If you return later, iTunes can retrieve the page from the cache faster than getting it from the internet.
If the content on a page seems outdated, you can reset the cache to retrieve the latest version. If you think a page isn’t opening properly, resetting the cache may help.
Reset podcast identifier
If the content in Podcasts seems outdated, reset the podcast identifier to retrieve the latest version.
Warn me if iTunes is not the default player for audio files
iTunes displays a warning if another application is the default audio player.
Keep MiniPlayer on top of all other windows
Keep MiniPlayer in front of all open windows, even while you use applications other than iTunes.
Keep movie window on top of all other windows
When playing a movie in a separate window, keep the movie window in front of all open windows, even while you use applications other than iTunes.
Show iTunes icon in system tray
Display or hide the iTunes icon in the notifications area of the Windows taskbar.
If you show the icon in the system tray, you can choose to minimize the iTunes window to the notifications area.
Enable full keyboard navigation
Control iTunes using your keyboard, even if iTunes isn’t the active window.
Check for new software updates automatically
Display a message when a new version of iTunes is available.
Note: This option isn’t available when you’ve installed iTunes from the Microsoft Store. See Update iTunes.
