Turn iCloud Photos on or off on your devices
On your iPhone
You can use iCloud Photos with the Photos app on your iPhone to automatically upload your entire photo library to iCloud. Any edits you make are updated across all of your devices. And because iCloud Photos always stores your original, full-size photos, Live Photos, and videos in iCloud, you can choose to keep smaller versions on your device to save space.
Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > Photos.
Turn on iCloud Photos.
See the iPhone User Guide.
On your Windows computer
If it isn’t already installed on your computer, get the iCloud for Windows app.
Open the iCloud for Windows app, then turn on Photos.
Click Options, then turn on iCloud Photos.
In the iCloud for Windows app (version 10): Turn on iCloud Photos.
In the iCloud for Windows app (version 7): Turn on iCloud Photo Library.
Turn options on or off.
My Photo Stream: See My Photo Stream in iCloud. (This option is only available in version 7 of the iCloud for Windows app.)
Download new photos and videos to my PC: By default, your photos and videos are downloaded to the Downloads folder in iCloud Photos. To change the location, click Change, choose a folder, then click OK.
Keep high efficiency original if available: By default, any High Efficiency Image File Format (HEIF) photos are converted to JPEG format before they are downloaded to your PC. If you select this option, both the HEIF and JPEG versions are downloaded.
Upload new photos and videos from my PC: By default, photos and videos placed in the Uploads folder in iCloud Photos are automatically uploaded. To change the location, click Change, choose a folder, then click OK.
iCloud Photo Sharing: By default, shared photos and videos are in the Sharing folder in iCloud Photos. To change the location, click Change, choose a folder, then click OK.
Click Done, then click Apply.
When you turn off iCloud Photos on a device, photos on that device are no longer kept up to date. You can still access your latest photos and videos using Photos on iCloud.com and on any other device you have set up for iCloud Photos. See the Apple Support article Get help with iCloud Photos.
