Select and buy content in Apple Business Manager
Apps and Books provides a streamlined purchasing process. You can buy apps and books from the App Store and Apple Books. You can also buy Custom apps tailored to your organization’s specific needs from developers with whom you work directly.
Note: Some Apple Books content is not available in certain countries or regions. To learn whether certain Apple Books content is available in your country or region, see the Apple Support article Availability of Apple programs for education and business.
Enable Custom Apps
In Apple Business Manager
, sign in with an account that has privileges to manage system-wide settings.Click Settings at the bottom of the sidebar, click Enrollment Information
below Organization Settings, then enable Custom Apps.You’ll see any previous purchases if you migrated from Apple Deployment Programs (ADP) with an account that had already purchased any Custom apps and also migrated your location to Apps and Books. If you didn’t migrate from Apple Deployment Programs, proceed to Step 3.
Give your Organization ID to the app developer so they can add your Organization to their approved list.
To locate your Organization ID, go to Settings, then select Device Management Settings below Organization Settings.
You can now purchase any additional Custom apps from the Custom Apps section. Custom Apps are deployed using either redemption codes or managed licenses and have the same management options as App Store apps.
Search for an app or book
In Apple Business Manager
, sign in with a Content Manager account.Select Apps and Books in the sidebar.
Click in the Search Accounts field above the Search bar, then enter your search criteria.
Click Filter
in the Search bar if you want to choose additional fields to filter your search results.
Buy licenses
In Apple Business Manager
, sign in with a Content Manager account.Select the app or book in the search results list that you want to buy.
Select the location where the app or book licenses will be initially assigned.
Enter the number of licenses and if necessary, change the payment method.
Click Buy.
Availability of app licenses depends on the amount purchased:
5000 licenses and under are immediately processed.
5001 to 19,999 licenses are processed after 1:00 PM Pacific daily.
20,000 licenses or more are processed after 4:00 PM Pacific daily.
Manage licenses
In Apple Business Manager
, select the location that has the app you want to reassign, then click Transfer.Select the quantity and where you want to transfer the license, then click Transfer.
Note: Books obtained from the Books app, once assigned, become the property of the Managed Apple ID and can’t be reassigned.
Assign licenses
Consult your mobile device management (MDM) solution’s documentation on how to assign apps to devices or users and books to users.
Buy codes
In certain cases, you may want to buy redemption codes. These codes can be redeemed by users to get apps which are then owned by that user’s Apple ID. Redemption codes aren’t available in South Korea.
Important: Codes, once redeemed, can’t be reassigned to other users.
In Apple Business Manager
, sign in with a Content Manager account.Select Apps and Books in the sidebar.
Select the app in the search results list that you want to buy.
Select Redemption Codes from the License Type pop-up menu.
Enter a quantity, then click Buy.
You can also download redemption codes from your purchase history under Apps & Books in Settings.
