high dynamic range (HDR)

A range of luminance values (levels of brightness) in an image that exceeds the luminance values of traditional, or standard-dynamic-range (SDR), images. For example, the HDR PQ standard can represent luminance values as high as 10,000 nits (candelas per square meter), creating more realistic color transitions and revealing more detail in both shadows and highlights.
