Cancel your Theft and Loss claim

If you find your missing device after you file a Theft and Loss claim, you might be able to cancel the claim, depending on the status of your claim.

Before your claim is approved

If your claim has not yet been approved, you might be able to cancel your claim with the third-party insurance group handling your claim. Check the status of your claim.

You can also go to My Support and sign in using the Apple Account associated with the missing device to find the Theft and Loss claim for your device. You will be directed to the third-party Theft and Loss website to cancel your claim.

After your claim is cancelled, you must set up your found device as new. You can restore your iPhone from a backup to get the data previously stored on your device.

After your claim is approved

If your claim is approved, your lost or stolen device will be permanently disabled and you'll receive a replacement. You can't cancel the claim if a replacement device has shipped.

If you find your lost or stolen device after your claim has been approved, you won't be able to use that device again. You can bring the found device to your nearest Apple Store or recycling center to be recycled.

If you purchased your AppleCare plan before September 15, 2020 in the United States, contact Assurant to return a found device.

Set up your replacement device

Your AppleCare with Theft and Loss coverage is transferred to your replacement device.

You can set up your replacement device as new, or you can restore it from a backup to get the data previously stored on your device.

Set up your replacement iPhone

If your wireless carrier or worldwide service provider doesn't support eSIM, you might need to bring your replacement device to your carrier to get and register a new SIM card. Learn about eSIM
